Found by Margaret Haddix crosses many genres. The story begins as an action adventure/mystery and morphs midway into science fiction. A brother/sister duo and their best friend are the main characters. Since this is the first in a new series and the story is so exciting, I'm already anxious to read the next one. Maybe Margaret Haddix will give us a few hints about the plot when she visits Collins in February.

Dede,
ReplyDeleteYour post moves me almost to tears. My daughter was a voracious reader . . . until third grade when she attended a school with a huge AR implementation. She wanted to read Lemony Snicket, but those tests weren't available or allowed or something like that. I told her "to heck with it. Read what you want." Somehow though, the reading grade was tied to the AR points (everyone seems to agree this is wrong, but it happened). That was the lowest grade she ever got in reading in her life, but I think it was worth it. It was so sad to see her lose out on the prizes other students got so that she could indulge her love of reading. Thanks so much for sharing your story.
